My name is Allison and I am originally from Kentucky, raised just south of Louisville. I suppose this all began rather early on: I was drawing dinosaurs with orange trees growing out of their backs at the tender age of four. My pre-school teachers told my mother I was “artistically precocious”.
I can't say I ever turned out to be much of an artist or illustrator, but I did develop a keen sense of visual detail and eventually, after a few detours along the way, fell in love with design. I am a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Art, earning a BFA in Visual Communications. I was a non-traditional student, having a first degree in Theatre, with minors in History and Music.
I enjoy type and layout by far and have a broad knowledge of multi-page layout using InDesign and Quark. Simply put, I live and die by the grid! My illustration skills are clean and lean towards the technical and exact. I have an excellent understanding of branding and brand maintenance, and have had to apply existing corporate identities to a variety of projects. Additional skills include a basic knowledge of Dreamweaver and CSS/HTML and extensive experience with MS Office, including PowerPoint.
After working as a part-time designer at an event planning and logistics firm and in the design department of a predictive analytics software company, I spent the first half of 2010 as a production designer for Leo Burnett in Chicago. In the summer, I left to take advantage of a wonderful job opportunity at Chicago Shakespeare Theater at Navy Pier, using both of my degrees as their in-house Graphic Designer and Production Artist.
I am still looking for new freelance design opportunities and ventures so please, take a look around and don’t hesitate to call or e-mail me!
